Choosing home décor is not always as easy as you think especially when you are young.

Your twenties are a time of transition, growth, and a lot of moving around. Maybe you find yourself in your third or fourth apartment and you aren’t even close to thirty yet!

Whilst this is a time for personal transformation, it is also a great way to get to know your décor style.

When the time comes for you to renovate your own house, you won’t waste time experimenting with different styles. You’ll know exactly what you want.

Here are a few things you need to know about interior décor before you turn thirty.

#1 – How to pick furniture

It often happens that young people inherit or borrow items from their families and friends when they first move out. Just because these items are a bit outdated, does not mean that they don’t have aesthetic value.

Vintage furniture works great and they are timeless. You can easily incorporate it into a more modern style.

A modern home is incomplete without a big mirror and a gorgeous display of ornaments, baskets, and photo frames.

Just remember that you should keep it tidy. Clutter can very easily kill the whole vibe of a room.

#2 – Select a colour that matches the rest of the home décor

When picking a wall colour, you must consider the rest of the items that will be placed in that room. Work around the things you already have.

Neutral shades and textures have and will remain popular and it blends in with almost any other colour.

If you want a bold look, however, avoid painting your ceilings white. Wallpaper is also a great option if you want to create a colourful atmosphere

#3 – Art should enhance your current home décor

The right art collection will lend a sophisticated and eclectic feel to your home.

If you can, try to commission work from your favourite artists. This way the artist can design the art in such a way that it suits your home décor, the colour scheme and your personality.

Art doesn’t have to be expensive. You can hit thrift shops or flea markets and you’re bound to find something you like.

Once you’re ready to hang your collection, make sure that you hang it at eye level and don’t space the works too far away from each other.

#4 – Keep it practical

You want your home to look amazing and appealing, but you also want it to be practical. Remember that you have to live there after all.

Don’t buy furniture, art, or other accent pieces just for the sake of buying them. You might find that it doesn’t complement or fit into your space at all. Sometimes a branded item is great to have but what are you going to do if that recliner chair is too big for your living room?

Think about style as well as function.

#5 – Bring it all together

Buying home décor is only half the battle won. You need to now place the items so that it complements the rest of the room.

Scale is very important and you need to decide how you’re going to balance furniture and accent pieces in a room.

Before you go on a shopping spree, take some time to measure the room so that you know how much space you have to play with. If your scale is off, it might look cluttered and you might not have much space to move.

Interior designing is fun but make sure that you stick to these few tips when looking for home décor.
