After the long winter months, a spring party is a perfect way to enjoy the outdoors again.

Spring parties are wonderful because the weather isn’t too hot and it’s not too cold either. You can even host a get-together in the evening without the weather playing up too much!

With spring comes the dawn of summer, a beautiful and hopeful time of year. What better way to get the backyard ready to enjoy this time with friends and family?

Here are 6 ways you can wow your guests at your next spring party.

1) Clean and declutter before your spring party

The very first thing that you should do is clean and declutter the backyard.

Maybe you’ve been putting off gardening for the last few weeks of winter. Now is the time for you to roll up your sleeves and make your garden look picture-perfect again.

Get rid of all the soggy leaves lying around and pop them onto your compost heap.

You can also plant a few new plants to welcome the season.

Remember to replace the broken plant pots that didn’t quite survive the cold, harsh months and give the patio a proper cleaning.

2) Add some colour to your spring party

Once you have done your literal spring cleaning, you can now focus on bringing new elements into your backyard.

The best way to stun your guests is by adding some colour.

The easiest way to do this is to revamp your current outdoor seating area. You will be surprised what a new set of cushions can do!

Surround the seating area with colourful ornaments and bright flowers.

Take the old pot plants that you have and slap a new coat of paint on them for an extra pop of colour.

3) Create a theme for your spring party

As soon as you have decided on the look for your outdoor seating area, you can decide on your theme.

Deciding on a theme is often the best course of action, especially if you don’t know what to do in terms of décor.

If you are planning on hosting it during the day, it is easy to choose a specific colour theme and go according to that.

You can then also ensure that your catering matches the theme. If you’re going floral, for example, you can get decorated cupcakes to match.

If you are planning an evening get-together, then you can opt for something a bit more cosy and intimate.

Fairy lights are always a good idea for any garden party and you can throw a few cushions around to highlight the comfortable aesthetic.

4) Be smart about your catering

While we’re on the topic of food, spring parties are versatile enough for any type of catering.

You can decide whether you want to go all out or do something casual.

Platters and finger foods work well if you have a bigger group coming over whereas an intimate brunch is perfect for a smaller group.

You can easily alternate between hot and cold snacks, too.

Spring evenings are wonderful for braais or pizza nights if you are fortunate enough to have an outdoor pizza oven.

5) Keep warm(ish)

Most of the time spring evenings are enjoyable enough with only a slight breeze coming up.

There are, however, the odd nights when winter creeps back up to remind you that it only passed a few weeks ago!

For those unusually cool spring nights, make sure your guests are warm and dry.

A fire is usually the easiest way to keep warm but many people invest in a patio heater. This is a great way to keep your patio warm if you plan on entertaining in the winter.

You can also consider moving your outdoor seating area under cover if your patio area is open. This will block the wind and rain from interrupting your perfect spring party.

6) Go green

The easiest thing for us to do is to opt for disposable plates and cups when we host parties.

Whilst this is a convenient alternative to washing dishes, it isn’t always eco-friendly.

When shopping for disposable cutlery, plates, and cups, make sure that you opt for an environmentally-conscious and biodegradable product.

This way you can have fun and you can take care of the planet while you do it.

Final thoughts

A spring party is a great way to say goodbye to those cold winter months and greet the warmer weather with enthusiasm.

With these 6 tips, you can host an unforgettable spring party for your loved ones.
