Every room should have different lighting styles to highlight its features.

Not every room fulfils the same function so why would you install the same type of lighting?

You can make a room look cosier, brighter, bigger, or smaller with a simple change of light. This, however, is not always as easy as it sounds.

It takes a keen eye to identify the right type of lighting that will complement a room. Here are a few ways in which you can find the right lighting styles for the rooms in your house.

#1 – Lighting in the entrance

Your guests will take their first step through the entrance of your house. This is where first impressions are made and the general vibe of the house is established.

In order to make a good first impression, you need to make your entrance feel warm and inviting so that your guests feel at home.

For this reason, mounted chandeliers situated in the centre of the room is the perfect solution especially if you have high ceilings

If this isn’t possible, use any light fitting that can create a warm tone. It should be easy on the eyes and have a soft illumination without making the room too dark.

#2 – Lighting in the living room

Our living rooms have changed in functionality over the years. They aren’t only reserved for relaxation after dinner anymore but they are also used for entertainment purposes.

The lighting in the living room should be flexible to suit the activity taking place. Ceiling-mounted downlights work well here, especially if accompanied by a dimmer switch.

If you want to relax with a glass of wine, you can dim the lights. If you want to play board games with the family, however, you can simply turn the lights to a brighter setting.

#3 – Lighting in the dining room

The worst thing you can do in a dining room is to install lights that are too dim.

This can spoil the mood of the room and some people might find it difficult to see what they are doing. Dining room lighting should be bright so that people can see and chat with each other.

People often install chandeliers or a set of pendant lights to create a bright and elegant look.

Just remember that these fixtures should not hang too low. It might bother guests and make it difficult to enjoy the full functionality of the room.

#4 – Lighting in the kitchen

The types of lights you install in the kitchen depends on the size of the kitchen. If you have a smaller kitchen, one light might be sufficient.

If you have a larger kitchen, however, you will need to install appropriate lights to highlight certain sections of the kitchen.

The preparation area, for example, should be well lit because you need to see what you are doing when you are cooking.

If you have a kitchen island, you don’t need as much lighting here. You can install a pendant light to highlight this area.

Install smaller spotlights to brighten up darker corners and areas that you don’t use that often.

#5 – Lighting in the bedroom and en-suite

The bedroom is the place for you to relax and wind down. You should under no circumstances install a single bright light in this room.

Install a light with a dimmer and add a bedside lamp. This way you can still have enough light to read at night but if you need to get dressed in the morning, there is a brighter light available.

As for the en-suite bathroom, these rooms should enjoy bright lights. You can install LED lights and wall sconces above important areas like the mirror.

The right lighting can dramatically transform the rooms in your house. Be sure to follow these tips to enjoy the functionality of each room in your home.
