A bathroom should be a place of serenity; somewhere you can relax and escape after a long day at work; somewhere you can get ready for the day in comfort and style.
So, if your faucets are leaky and you have poor lighting it might be time for a remodeling.
You spend time in there every day. This is why you should fall in love with it and not hate being in there.
Here are 5 clear signs that it is time for your bathroom to get a facelift:
#1 – Just a terrible layout
An awkward bathroom layout might be a signal that it is time for a bathroom makeover. Odd arrangements that might seem normal to you are a big no-no, like a toilet next to a bathtub.
These are typical in bungalows during the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s when plumbing was still a new concept.
Unless you live in a treehouse and have a time machine, you can easily fix this mess.
Install a separate water closet to give the room a bit of refinement because the toilet won’t be sitting out in the middle of the space.
#2 – It sure smells like a bathroom
Just because you use it as a bathroom does not mean it should smell like a bathroom!
With some bathrooms, you just walk in and it smells like an old bathroom. This is a major indication that a change is desperately needed.
You can easily fix this by replacing the toilet’s wax seal, fixing a persistent leak that might be causing mold to grow around the sink or adding better ventilation to a window-less bathroom.
You can also consider replacing old bath mats that carry a wet smell and install some air fresheners to keep it smelling amazing.
#3 – Storage space is nearly non-existent
It is true that we use our bathroom for more than just our own needs.
We need space for our towels, our washcloths, soap, and other necessities to keep ourselves fresh and clean.
It often happens that bathrooms are so cramped with items that they have no space for storage. This is definitely a warning sign.
Try installing a larger vanity or add shelves above the toilet. You can even knock out a wall if you’re feeling adventurous and steal a little space from another room for a linen closet.
#4 – Colors are quite outdated
Whilst you may not be used to it or consider it, there are bathroom trends and they are there for a reason.
The color of your bathroom definitely contributes to the calm and relaxing atmosphere that should be present during your morning and evening routine.
Funky hues can be one of the most noticeable signs that a bathroom is out of date. Fix it by adding neutral colors like greys, blacks, and whites.
These palettes will lend elegance and element of agelessness to any area. You can always spice this up with modern or traditional accent pieces.
#5 – Not photogenic at all
It often happens that you can see the mistake in a picture but not with your own eyes. It would be a good idea if you took a photograph of your bathroom as it is and then scrutinize it.
You will be able to get a better idea of what needs to be fixed or improved if you look at it on paper.
People eventually become blind to the discord and accept what they see every day – the mismatched color on the walls, the tattered bath mat or the accumulated junk on the vanity that you just haven’t got round to packing away yet.
Remodeling your bathroom does not have to be expensive, but small changes make a huge difference!
