There are so many ways to reuse, recycle and re-purpose and have fun at the same time. I have selected a couple of great recycling projects that use a variety of household items that normally get thrown out.

Over on Copy & Paste they show how easy it is to use stainless steel spoons as unique basket hangers. All you need to do is use a drill/driver and 6mm HSS (that stands for high-speed steel) drill bit to drill a hole in the spoon so that you can screw onto the wall. A pair of pliers and a bench vice will come in handy for bending the spoon to shape.

Still got some spoons leftover?

Love this ideas for using old spoons to create a dramatic light feature. This would look lovely over a romantic table, or for a wedding or special event.

Another idea I really like is to use old spoons to create a tealight candle display for mounting onto a wall. A piece of reclaimed timber would look very rustic. [Via]

Or what about using sterling silver spoons to craft a vintage hanger? [Via]

This is one unique project. Who could believe that a cheese grater could be the perfect way to store all those whacky earrings! A can of Rust-Oleum 2X spray paint in your choice of colour, some cup hooks and a few dabs of epoxy glue and there you have it. Our thanks to Irit Cohen for this idea.

Although glass jars can be recycled, why not put them to reuse in your own home. All you need for this project is clean jars, some wrapping or scrapbooking paper, ModPodge or clear acrylic sealer and lengths of twine. What a novel way to store your art and craft accessories. [Via]

Alternatively, you can spray glass bottles and jars with Rust-Oleum spray paint. My only problem with spraying glass bottles and jars is that they look a little plain once done, but pure and noble came up with an easy way to dress up glass bottles – use a glue gun to decorate before you spray.

Spray your glass ornaments or bottles with Rust-Oleum Chalkboard spray, or Rust-Oleum Gloss Protective Enamel. You can spray them in flat, satin or gloss in a multitude of colours. And you will find Rust-Oleum on the shelf at your local Builders Warehouse.

If you prefer a more Shabby Chic look, why not use Rust-Oleum 2X blossom white to spray empty cans to create a stationary holder for your desk. For this project a variety of materials have been glued to the cans with ModPodge (clear acrylic sealer) and includes: wrapping paper, sheet music and twine – anything goes, so use your imagination. While DVDs have pretty much taken over from video cassettes, I guarantee that more than a few people still have videos or cases lying around in a cupboard somewhere. Here’s a way to make stylish art that doubles as a secret compartment from Divaani. Insert an image or photograph in the cover and screw the video case to the wall. Presto!
