In 1861 the original farm was given to Cornelis Johannes Smit and his two cousins, RG Badenhorst and HJJ Badenhorst. When Smit died in 1891, his son inherited 500 acres of land which we know today as Fairland. The rich history of the suburb makes for an interesting place to live and since its modest beginnings, it has come a long way.
