Cato Ridge is a town in the Ethekwini Metropolitan Municipality as a suburb of the Outer West region. It is situated some 30 km south-east of Pietermaritzburg and 50 km north-west of Durban in the Valley of a Thousand Hills. Named after George Christopher Cato (1814-1893), the first mayor of Durban.[2]
The area is quickly becoming a popular manufacturing and logistics node, as it is ideally located on the primary western corridor, the centre of gravity of most of South Africa's regional and national distribution network. The future 850ha Dry Port logistics, industry and business development will be located in Cato Ridge, planned to alleviate congestion in the Durban Harbour.
